Handpainted Caribbean Gourd Art and Collectibles
Fine gourd art is finally coming into its own. Once used solely for utilitarian purposes such as water carriers and ceremonial vessels, these gourds are now being taken to a higher level and decorated as never before. The type of gourd I use is from the higüera tree found here on the island of Puerto Rico. Its delicate looking shell is misleading; it is hard, dense and solid, and allows me to design and carve shapes not possible with vine-grown gourds (see What's the Difference?).

Here's a brief overview of the site: items for sale are in the Shop, including
a page dedicated to Gourds Under $100 and Un-gourdly Art (plates, paintings and other non-gourd art). Collections of earlier works are organized on the Gallery pages, including Environmentally-friendly lampshades. Living and working on a boat is the inspiration for much of what I paint (take a peek at the Artist page). Whether you're interested in fine art collectibles, home decorations, or gifts for yourself or others, you're sure to find at least one thing that makes you go, "ooh..."

Please take your time, and thank you for visiting.

My interpretation of a Faberge Egg contains a birdcage, with bird, swinging inside. Made entirely from gourds, it measures 12" tall.
