What Kind of Gourds Are These? The Puerto Rican higüera is a variety of calabash. The tree bears a hard shelled fruit which has been crafted into vessels, musical instruments and ceremonial objects for centuries. The rare, extra large higüeras may weigh as much as 15 -20 pounds when harvested, and take up to 6 months to fully dry. Each piece has been crafted by hand and comes with it's own Certificate of Authenticity. Scratch resistant, but don't use harsh utensils; clean with a damp cloth and dry.
