Ken and I attended the 11th Annual Gourd Art Festival in Fallbrook, California, this past June. A long trip, but it was great to be among so many other gourd artists again, and the artwork at the show was stunning. Here are the pieces I entered this year. My latest favorite is my interpretation of the Faberge Egg, pictured at left. It's difficult to see everything, but the birdcage inside holds a Bluebird (of Happiness, of course!) perched on a branch, also carved from a gourd. At one point during the sometime-frustrating creative process Ken asked, "Why don't you just throw it overboard and be done with it." I'm really glad I didn't, although I was tempted. For more photos of the festival, see www.calgourd.com.
I call this simply 'lumpy lamp', for lack of a better word. The lamp base and shade were molded while growing.

What's this? Megayachts in our little seaside village in P.R.? Our neighbors (the ones on the sailboat) were just as shocked, but I guess nothing stays the same. These folks must have been heading for some other exotic island because they didn't stay long, but what eye candy! My neighbor (right), rumor has it, had none other than Tommy Lee Jones on board, and I wish I could say I met him but I never even saw him. Oh well. I hear La Parguera may be a locale for the next MIB movie. I'm just glad I don't have to clean a boat THAT size!
Just thought you might like to see what a hurricane looks like when it passes by. This was midday. "Dean" was a bit of a scare, but fortunately it passed us by with just some wind and rain. Good!

The summer has passed by relatively uneventful. I've spent my time reworking the website, painting a couple of murals and redecorating the boat while Ken was visiting relatives. Much easier that way!

Thanks for viewing. Our newsletter comes out quarterly, but add me to your 'Favorites' list and check periodically for new pieces. Gift Certificates are now available on the Gift Shop and Order pages.
Christmas is just around the corner...
Best regards,
Andrea
